Featured Research: Quantum Wells Get Hot!

Type-II InAs/AlAsSb quantum wells have been recently investigated by the group of Prof. Ian Sellers  as a candidate system for hot carrier solar cells. In a recent article published in "Progress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications (DIO:10.1002/pip.2763) the Sellers-group demonstrated the presence of robust hot carriers at elevated temperatures in this system. This behavior shows that thermal relaxation pathways can be effectively inhibited in these structures. Thermal processes are a major source of loss in conventional solar cells.…
