My favorite driver,
Howard "The Campbell Comet" Kaeding (in the
red sprint car), alongside
his son,
Brent. Brent is one of the more dominant sprint car drivers in the
country today. Howard, who was roughly 66 years old when this
picture was
taken, was practically unbeatable in the decades past.

A supermodified, photographed
at Madera Speedway in Madera, CA (near Fresno).
Note the location of the engine
between the left-side tires. In fact, the entire car
is shifted towards the left side. These cars are obviously
intended to turn left. They weigh roughly 1700 pounds,
and the engines generate nearly 1000 horsepower.
They are the fastest cars in the
world on a short track, and can traverse the Madera 1/3
mile oval in less than 12 seconds. Some supermodifieds
can get down into the 10 second range on tracks with
steeper banks.

Another supermodified, this one driven by Rex Beach at Madera.
Note the Keith Black 426 Hemi.

A sample of Abear Custom Cues. The owner, Steve Hebert, told me that
all three are in private hands. The one on the far left is his wife's.
All three sell in the $2000-$3000 range. The pure-white material is
genuine ivory, while the wrap (where the hand holds the cue) is made of
elk horn. I put a picture of these cues up because I think they are the most
beautiful I have seen, while not the most exotic. (Cues can sell upwards of
$100,000. For a look at some really exotic cues, see
Showcase of American Cue Art.) Cover photo

My table, a 9' SAM Kim Steele. In my opinion the SAM is
the best table money can buy. My pool room is a converted garage,
and I am steadily improving the room to create the perfect environemnt
for shooting pool. I'm almost there. The cloth is Granito Tournamnet
2000, which is probably as good as it gets. The balls are Super Aramith Pros.
The speaker you see in the corner is one of a pair of
von Schweikerts. You see, I am a
music nut as well.
