I am an amateur ornithologist (birdwatcher) and am starting to mark my pages with random (they change with each page reload) samplings of some of the pictures I have taken. On pages other than this one, my picture will link back to this page. The bird image can be clicked to enlarge it.

Hi! I am Andy Feldt, the systems and network manager for the Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Oklahoma. You are welcome to send me a message about anything concerning our departmental network (anything at or our departmental web server (

In my younger days, and again recently, I have done research in both physics and astrophysics. Note that some of this was so long ago that I had the pleasure of meeting Jens Rud Nielsen after whom our building is named.

To see what things are of interest to me, you might want to look at my hotlist file. I have tried to organize this somewhat to make it easier for me to find things. I also have some family info (and other old pages). My family might be interested in my family weather page. I have also set up an entry on Facebook but it is a bit sparse yet. (And, you can't view it unless you send me a friend request and I accept!)

As an amateur ornithologist, I have begun to attempt some bird photography. My pages choose a random picture from a small sampling of my photos. You can also view a summary of these pictures.

I used to play racquetball in (and was "commissioner" of) the Over The Hill Racquetball League (OTHRBL) here at OU. The members can view the old info if they wish...

In the winter of 2005, I played soccer for the first time in my life. This was in an adult, coed, indoor soccer league in Oklahoma City. We even won some games! We played again in the winter of 2006 with this group (Random Walks). We placed 2nd in the session that ended in January, 2006 and then finished last in the following session.

A new thing for me in 2013 - playing in a softball league for players 60 years old or greater! This is the Central Oklahoma Senior Softball League. We had our first practices on January 27 and February 2 - it's a good thing we are in Oklahoma! The season ended up being a lot of fun - it was great to be an outfielder again as one of the younger players. I am still playing in 2017 and hope to match the 80-plus year old guys some day (there are a couple of these).

I was on the advisory board for the OU Supercomputing Center for Education & Research from its inception until the board was dissolved. I was also the President of the Cleveland County chapter of Thrivent until they ended that program in 2017. I am a Trustee for the Endowment Trust of University Lutheran Church and Student Center.

A glimpse into my life:

There are only 10 types of people - those who understand binary and those who don't.

If only you and I and dead people can read hex, we know that this implies that deaf people can read hex.

All nerds have to have the equivalent of the "CMU Coke machine" checker. Mine is: (push the button - it's ok, no thermometers are harmed by this experiment!)

My badges - see Science Scouts for more badges. Click on a badge here for its full description.

The "I have written a program in assembly language that was used by others" badge (I had to periodically rewrite a printer driver long ago.)
The "I'm into telescopes astro" badge (LEVEL II) (I once observed at Kitt Peak for 10 days.)
"The "quantum mechanics... I soooo get it" badge (I did a postdoc doing electron-molecule scattering theory.)
