Amateur Astronomy

Amateur astronomers have made numerous valuable contributions to the field of astronomy such as the discovery of comets and supernovae, timing stellar occultations, and producing beautiful images of lunar and solar eclipses. Are you considering getting involved in astronomy at the amateur level? The purpose of this talk is to define the scope of amateur astronomy and point out the various areas of interest in which amateurs can actively participate. The speaker will also discuss the kinds of equipment that are available for making observations, as well as provide some concrete steps that members of the general public can take to become involved in making astronomical observations.
