Space Is Big (Data)

A tsunami of astronomical data is upon us.  For example, the Large
Synoptic Survey Telescope is expected to yield 15 terabyes of raw data
per night when it comes on line in 2022.  Analysis of large data sets
requires powerful computers, but more importantly, clever approaches
and strategies.  Extracting meaningful properties from raw data is an
especially challenging task.  The field is ripe for young researchers
who love data, and the experience can be used to move into careers in
many data-intensive fields.
