Increasing diversity, equity and Inclusion in astronomy graduate education

In early 2017, the American astronomical Society approved the creation of a task force on Diversity and Inclusion in Graduate Astronomy Education. The Task Force consisted of 8 members of the community chosen to represent a wide range of stakeholders and interests. The task force final report was accepted by the AAS Board of Trustee in December 2018. The charge for the TF was to examine practices in recruiting, admissions, and retention of students into programs that offer astronomy-related Master’s degrees and PhDs, with the goal of identifying those practices that promote diversity and inclusion in graduate programs with regard to race and ethnicity, gender, LGBTIQA status, disability status, neurodiversity, socioeconomic status, and possibly other areas. In this presentation we will learn about the recommendations from the task force which are evidence-based actions for increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in astronomy graduate programs.
