Wow, no one has posted since February. We all posted questions and comments every week last semester...what happened?

Anyway, did anyone figure out the railgun problem (Ch. 20 #35)? I have answers that I checked against real values for
railguns via wikipedia, but they seemed all too easy. I found it odd that I didn't have to do anything with the
current loop (no KVL, KCL, etc.). I got:

(a) F = IlB = 7.8 x 10^5 N

(b) a = F/m = 7.8 x 10^6 m/s^2
    v = 7.9 x 10^3 m/s (using the kinematics equations)

Is this what everyone got? We've already turned this one in but it was bugging me.

Grades are now posted. I will update them about 4 times during the semester, usually
right after every exam and right before the final.

When are grades going to start being posted?

Anyone figure number 40 from the homework? I'm really not sure whether to set up the problem as F=ma,
or use the CWE Theorem, or The First Law of thermodynamics, or what.

This is a test to see if the discussion format works. The script to run this web page
was written a long time ago and is not very sophisticated. You must update the page
to see the latest comments, including the comment you just posted. Also, please hit
the "Enter" key when you get to the end of the line, like you would on an old
typewriter. That is, hit "Enter" before you reach the right hand side of the box you
are typing in above. Then hit the "Submit" button only once to submit your comment.
It's not very sophisticated, but it does work.
