Answer the Reading Questions below. Please answer each question.

1. Consider a piece of paper sitting flat on a table. What direction does the "area vector" point that describes the area of the paper?

2. What is the magnitude of the electric flux going through a closed surface that has no net charge enclosed in the surface?

3. Consider Gauss's Law, (Equation 16.18). What charge(s) contributes to the enclosed charge on the right hand side of the equation, and what charge(s) contribute to the electric field in the integral?

4. There are three symmetric situations where it is easy to use Gauss's law. What shape do those three symmetries have?

5. If a conductor is charged with an electric charge, where on the conductor does the electric charge reside?

6. What property of electric fields allows us to define an electric potential energy?

7. How is the electric potential related to the electric potential energy?

8. Why is the addition of the electric potential from two point charges much easier than the addition of the electric field from two point charges?

9. How much work does it take to move a charged particle along an equipotential surface?

10. A charged particle feels only an electric force. Is it possible for this particle to increase its electric potential energy while moving to a lower electric potential? Explain.

Final Question: (This question must be answered to receive any credit). What is one thing from the chapter that you didn't understand or need clarified?
