Answer the Reading Questions below. Please answer each question.

1. If an object is moving at a constant speed but turning, is the object accelerating?

Yes
No

2. At one time, the velocity of a particle points at an angle of 45° above the positive x axis. At a later time, the particle has a velocity with the same magnitude, but now pointing at an angle of 45° above the negative x axis. What is the direction of the average acceleration between these two times?

3. When dealing with projectile motion, what is the value of the acceleration in the vertical direction?

4. An object is thrown into the air. Neglecting air resistance how does the horizontal velocity of the object change while it is traveling?

5. An object is thrown across a room. Neglecting air resistance during the flight, where does the object have the slowest speed? Is the speed ever zero?

6. Suppose a rifle fires a bullet in a horizontal direction at the same time that a marble is dropped from the same height as the bullet is fired. If the ground is level, which will hit the ground first, the bullet or the marble? Why?

7. Explain how subscripts are used when doing problems involving relative velocity, so that the problem is easier to solve.

8. Does an object that is traveling with uniform cicular motion have a constant velocity? Does it have a constant acceleration?

9. Which direction does the angular velocity vector point for the second hand of a clock hanging on a wall as the second hand moves in its normal fashion?

10. If an object has a tangential component of acceleration and a centripetal component of acceleration how would you describe its motion?

Final Question: (This question must be answered to receive any credit). What is one thing from the reading that you didn't understand or need clarified?
