My current interests are in cosmology and effective actions for certain topological quantum field theories and Kaluza-Klein spaces. I have recently been working on the quantitative effects of mass inhomogeneities on determinations of the cosmological parameters. With collaborators I am also using the background field method to compute effective actions for certain topological quantum field theories and Kaluza-Klein spaces. To ensure gauge independence of our loop expansions, we have found it necessary to use the effective action of Vilkovisky-DeWitt.
