PARKER Family Group #2

P13 and P16 match on 35 of 37 markers. The oldest PARKER ancestor of P13 is John PARKER, born about 1725 in Ireland. He emmigrated to the U.S. before 1774, when he obtained a land grant in Montgomery Co. VA. He died before 1793. Thomas Bryant PARKER, born 1 October 1797 or 15 October 1798 in Grayson Co. VA, died 27 July 1850 in Kanesville, Iowa is the oldest PARKER ancestor of P16. Descendents have been searching for the parents of Thomas Bryant PARKER for more than 100 years. Recent evidence had indicated that these two lines could be related, but a solid paper connection could not be established. P13 and P16 had their Y-DNA analysed to determine whether they shared a common ancestor. They are now confident that Thomas Bryant PARKER, born 1 October 1797 or 15 October 1798, was a grandson of John PARKER born 1725. P21 and P16 are brothers, and expected to have a high level match. For further information see:

P24 and P25 were added to this family group on November 14,2004 after their DNA analysis was complete. They match each other on 40 of 42 markers, and each matches P21 on 41 of 42 markers. They are descended from Joshua PARKER, born 2 November1809 in New York City. Joshua married Druscilla DICKENSON HARTLEY 30 November 1844. The parents of Joshua are Joshua PARKER Jr., born 1778 in Cortlandt Manor, New York and Sarah ROGERS, born 1769 in New York City, New York. The Virginia PARKER line of P13 and P16 had no prior connection to the this area, and we think it is likely that the common ancestor lived in Ireland or England. Additional test subjects are being sought to expand the descendents of this line. For further information see:

P34 was added to this family group in January 2005, upon completion of his DNA test. He is descended from Moses PARKER, born 1 February1806 in New York City, an older brother of Joshua PARKER, born 2 November 1809. For further information see:

P36 was added to this family group in Jan 2005. His DNA test was done as part of the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy project, and his DNA profile was found by searching for matches in that data base to DNA profiles of one of our participants. He is also descended from the line of Joshua PARKER of New York.

The common ancestor of the lines of John PARKER and Joshua PARKER is still unknown, but the marker DYS 449 appears to be a point of differentiation between these lines.

Where do we go from here?

  • Parker DNA participants with documented lineage originating in Northern Ireland in the 1700's are sought.
  • The parents of Joshua Parker Jr. are beleived to be Joshua Parker and Mary. We seek DNA participants representing Joshua's (1778) brothers. Joshua Sr. and Mary had the following children:
    • Joshua Parker Jr. born 1778 in Cortlandt Manor, New York
    • Daniel Parker (We need a DNA participant representing this line)
    • Talmage (We need a DNA participant representing this line)
    • Susan (The Y-Chromosome being tested is only passed to males)
    • Mary (The Y-Chromosome being tested is only passed to males)
  • We seek additional DNA Participants representing John Parker I (born 1725). John and Hannah had the following children:
    • William born about 1748 (P13 represents this line, one additional representative would be useful)
    • Joseph born about 1752 (We need a DNA participant representing this line)
    • Samuel born about 1760 (We need a DNA participant representing this line)
    • John II born about 1764 (We need a DNA participant representing this line)
    • Joshua born about 1772 (We need a DNA participant representing this line)
    • Arthur born 17 July 1775 (We need a DNA participant representing this line)
    • Susanna born about 1780 (The Y-Chromosome being tested is only passed to males)
  • We need documentation connecting the Joshua Parker (1725) and Joshua Parker (1778) families. DNA only provides proof that the families are connected. It give us no information on how they are connected.
