Background information.

My grandfather Joseph Faulkner Parker was born 7 April 1841 in Palmyra, Marion County, Missouri. His father Thomas Bryant Parker was born 1 October 1797 (or 15 October 1798) in Grayson County, Virginia. We know the date and place of birth of Thomas and all of his children from a letter written by Martha Ann Nelson (spouse: Thomas Bryant Parker) to her mother June 22, 1851. Our family have been looking for the parents of Thomas Bryant Parker for more than 100 years. Ray Parker thought that it was likely that his ancestor William Parker born 10 April 1748 is the father of Thomas Bryant Parker. William Parker is the son of John Parker who was probably born in Northern Ireland around 1725. John Parker married Hannah and they had seven children: William Parker, Joseph Parker, Samuel Parker, John Parker, Joshua Parker, Arthur Parker and Susanna Parker. John died in Grayson County, Virginia before August 1793. As a result of this circumstantial evidence Ray and I had DNA tested. The Y-chromosome that was tested is only passed from father to son. Since Ray and I have similar DNA it proves that Ray and I share a common male ancestor through our paternal lines.

After receiving of DNA results I searched the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation's DNA database. This search showed that Ray and I are also related to a grandson of Daniel Parker born 3 March 1866 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Although I do not know who this grandson is I now know that we share a common paternal ancestor and I publicly thank him. I then located other descendents of Joshua Parker and two of them (Keith Parker and Hugh Parker) also had a DNA test. Their results confirmed that we are all related. As far as I know nobody knows how our families are related. However, all of us share a common male Paternal ancestor. The DNA evidence can be seen at the following links Parker DNA Success Stories and the Parker DNA Project.

We are now looking at various genealogical sources to connect these families. If you have any information regarding these families please send them to me (Greg Parker). These pages will be updated often as we obtain more information.

Benjamin Parker born born 1813 New York City, New York is the brother of Joshua Parker born 1809.

This picture of Benjamin Parker, who was born 1813, at Shrewsbury, Monmouth, New Jersey, the son of Joshua Parker and Sarah Rogers Parker. It was sent to me by John F.W. Minke III of Carmicheal, California, who is a descendant of Benjamin Parker, either a 2nd or 3rd great-grandson in 1982.

Previously to John Minke's correspondence with me I did not know where Benjamin was born. That information was passed down through John Minke's family. It is apparent from tracing the New York City Directories that Joshua and Sarah left New York City for a few years. John's information gives evidence to their moving to New Jersey where both of their youngest children, Caleb and Benjamin, were born. Later the family moved back to New York City where they died, Joshua in 1819 and Sarah in 1829.

Benjamin married Martina Bartholf and had two sons named John Benjamin Parker and Henry Giles Parker. John F. W. Minke III descended from John Benjamin Parker.

Thanks to Sharon P. Christensen for sending this picture.

Thanks Suzanne Hansen

Caleb Parker born 2 January 1811 and his wife Cornelis Van Tassel abt 1833

These photos were sent to Sharon by Robert Smith who lived in New Jersey, in 1993. It interesting that Caleb was buried at the Cortlandt Parker plot. Joshua Parker, his father, was said to have been born at Cortlandt Manor in Upper New York, which was in Westchester Co.

Caleb Parker was born 2 January 1811 at Shrewsbury, Monmouth, New Jersey, the son of Joshua and Sarah Rogers Parker. He married Cornelia Van Tassel abt 1833. They were the parents of nine children who were all born in New York City. By 1880 he had moved to Morris County, New Jersey and died in 10 June 1888, buried Trinity Church Cemetery in New York City in the Cortlandt Parker plot. He was a blacksmith, whitesmith, and farmer.

Information on Joshua Parker (born abt 1778)

For a starter, this is what I have on the parents of Joshua Parker (1809-1880), who married Drucilla Dickenson Hartley. There is no Dickson or Dixon in her middle name. She is decended from the Thomas Dickenson line of Salem County, NJ. I will send you this info in subsequent e-mails:

Joshua Parker, b. abt 1778, Courtlandt Manor, Westchester, NY d. 27 Sep 1819, NYC

md 30 June 1802, Collegiate Dutch Reformed Church, NYC

md Sarah Rogers, b. abt 1785, Connecticut, d. 8 February 1829, NYC (I believe her father is named Moses Rogers)

children:

1. Pamela Parker, b. 30 Nov 1802, NYC, chr. 24 July 1808, NYC md. Ezekiel Magee (not verified)

2. Margaret Parker, b. 29 Apr 1804, NYC, chr 24 July 1808, NYC, md.Elias P. Williams, 18 May 1826, NYC, d. 13 Mar 1832, NYC

4. Aaron Parker, b. 13 Dec 1807, NYC, chr 24 July 1808, NYC, md. 26 February 1832, Mary Blauvelt, NYC, d. 6 Oct 1853, East Bloomfield, Ontario, NY

5. Joshua Parker (our ancestor)

6. Caleb Parker, 2 Jan 1812, Fort Lee, Bergen, NJ, md. Cornelia Van Tassel, abt 1833, d. 10 June 1888, Teaneck, Bergen, NJ

7. Benjamin Parker, abt 1813, Monmouth Co, NJ, md. Martha Barthoff, d. 16 Nov 1895, Englewood, Bergen, NJ

I have seen no concrete evidence that Joshua Parker is related to the Joshua Parker line in Massachusetts. My researches into our Parker line indicate that we are probably related to/descended from the Parkers of Monmouth County, NJ. whose immigrant ancestor is one George Parker, who went to Massachusetts and then on to NJ as a result of persecution of the Quakers by the Puritans. George Parker was a Quaker.

More to follow.

Thank you,

Mike Puckett (My great grandparents are Frederick A. Parker& Mary Thomas. Their daughter Jeneve Parker is my grandmother. She married Parley Hemming.)

There is more information on Daniel Parker, Hannah Barbara Morris and their family.

An interesting email from a researcher (D. Hadden) on this line.

Dear Mr. Parker,

I am a direct descendant of a Parker Family you have listed on a forum on Genealogy.com. I find your information to be interesting since you have slightly different spellings and dates than most other researchers which have led me in new directions of re search. I would like to pass on my information to yo u.....

Charles Henry Parker and Ida Zaccrison of Salt Lake City, UT are my 2nd great-grandparents.

Joshua Parker and Drucilla Dickenson or Dixon Parker (I believe you have most of their information as I think I saw it on your web site) are my 3rd great-grandparents

Joshua Parker and Sarah Rogers are my 4th great grandparents.

Here is the information I have on them. My mother and a distant cousin who lives in New England and who has gone physically to obtained many documents are the researchers who have provided me with this information....

Died 27 of September 1819 in New York City, New York, New York, and he was 41 years old according to death certificate
.

b. 2 Jan 1813, NJ
m. Cornielia Van Tassell

Benjamin Parker
b. Abt 181?, NYC
m. to Martha Barthoff no date or place.

We also know Joshua Parker (1778) to have the following brothers and sisters.....

Daniel, Talmage, Susan, Mary according to our cousin in New York. However, we do not have dates or places.

We also found a Joshua Parker married to Margaret Wooley on the LDS church's IGI that we are looking into as possible parents of Joshua (1778).

How are you related to this family? We are looking for the parents of Joshua and Sarah, and are also trying to find out more about the life of Joshua (1809). My mom is a FHC Consultant and has been for 30 years. She has been working on this line for just as long. She says that every time she tries to work on another line, our Joshua keeps popping "out of the drawer".

I think it is because there is a lot of erroneous research being reported on this line and the ancestors want it corrected. I am trying to write as many cousins as I can to get more clues.

I know you are an expert in DNA research which I find fascinating, but what I would really like to have is information from hard documents or written articles (newspapers and family history books from the past) that give more clues to this family. While my mom is trying to do the research, I am trying to write a story for my children of this dynamic family.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you might be able to give me.

D. Hadden
