FARRAGUT, Tenn. - Mr. Jeffrey Kent Shore, 43, formerly of Boonville, passed away Monday morning, June 23, 2003, at his home. Kent was a loving husband and father and a wonderful son. He was a member of First Farragut United Methodist Church . Kent was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Alvis Shore and Lloyd Prim. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Alison, and his children, Lindsay and Travis Shore, all of the home; his parents, Alvis Keith and Margaret Prim Shore of Boonville; a sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and G.W. White of Boonville; brothers and sisters-in-law Sammy and Marta Shore of Denver, N.C., and Brian and Tammy Shore of State Road; several nieces and nephews; his grandparents, Hazel Prim of East Bend and Kate Shore of Boonville; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leon and Margaret Wooten of East Bend. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Richmond Hill Baptist Church in Boonville. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 871Weisgarber Road, Knoxville , TN 37909 or to First Farragut United Methodist Church Building Fund, 11915 Kingston Pike, Farragut , TN 37922 . FAYETTEVILLE - Chief Warrant Officer David Snow, 37, United States Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, died Aug. 12, 2003, in South Korea. He was a native of Mount Airy and a graduate of North Surry High School , where he was a member of the football team. He had been stationed at Fort Bragg for 11 years and was assigned to the 8th Army, Company A, 6th Battalion, 52nd Aviation, 117th Aviation Brigade in Seoul , South Korea . He had served three previous tours in South Korea , as well as a tour to Honduras . He is survived by his wife, Amy Noonkester Snow of the home; two daughters, Emily Snow and Olivia Snow, both of the home; his parents, James Lee and Mary Kay Snow of Mount Airy and Billy Joe and Edna Matthews of Boonville; three brothers, Keith Snow and Kevin Snow, both of Mount Airy and Daniel Matthews of Mocksville; and three sisters, Holli S. Hudson of Mount Airy, Darice M. Jefferson of East Bend and Erica M. Pennix of Boonville. The funeral service for Chief Warrant Officer David W. Snow will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at the 82nd Airborne Division Memorial Chapel at Fort Bragg , with Chaplain Sonny Moore and Chaplain Thomas Killgore officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at 3:30 p.m. at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy . BOONVILLE - Mr. Lawrence Winston Caudle, 74, of Boonville passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at his home. He was born in Yadkin County on Dec. 27, 1928, to Carl Winston and Fannie Harris Caudle. Mr. Caudle was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church , where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nell Pendry Caudle of the home; a daughter, Renee C. (Gary) Hutchens of Boonville; a son, Ricky Lawrence (Marie) Caudle of Boonville; two grandsons, Keith Caudle and Chris Caudle, both of Boonville; two stepgrandsons, Kenny Jackson of Raleigh and Kevin (Melissa) Jackson of Oklahoma; a stepgreat-grandson, Austin Jackson of Oklahoma; and a special friend, Alvin (Allene) Caudle of Boonville. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Union Grove Baptist Church , with the Rev. Kenny Gooden and the Rev. Jack Gentry officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. to lie in state. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 13, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Clay Hobson, 2633 Snider Road , Yadkinville , NC 27055 . In the name of God Amen I Joseph Parker Senr. of the County of Monroe and State of Virginia, being very weak in Body but of Sound and perfect mind and Memory and considering the uncertainty of the Mortal life and being of sound mind, Blessed be almighty God for the same Do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First of all I recommend my soul to God that gave it, and my body to be buried in a decent manner and secondly all my Just Debts to be paid thirdly I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Jenny her choice of all my Horses also her Choice of three Cows also six sheep, Eight head of Hogs Likewise her choice of a Bed and furniture, and all the fall grain that is in the ground and the spring Crop where put in. Likewise the one half of all the crops arising from this manner plantation During her life or widow hood after her Death or marriage I desire this plantation that I now reside on to be divide in Six equal parts among my six Sons excepting the land that is now cleared and inclosed which I desire to reserve seven years for the support of my youngest Children this old tract that is afore mentioned or one hundred acres I give and bequeath to my youngest son Andrew and also During the life or widow hook of my wife Jenny I Desire that she shall have this sd. Plantation to be taught Book Keeping and surveying I also desire that my other four youngest sons shall be taught to Read and write and Cypher through the common arithmetick out of the Profits arising from my plantation that I now reside on I also desire my two sons Joseph and Jesse when they marry one Milk cow each and to my other four Sons a horse and milk Cow each at their Marriage and the rest of the stock to be for use and support of sd. This last will and Testament of Joseph Parker decd. was presented in Court by Andrew Ballentine the Executor named in said will & proven by the oaths of James Jones Peter Jones & Mary Jones subscribing witnesses thereto & the same is ordered to be recorded & on the motion of the said Andrew Balentine executor named as aforesaid who made oath & together with Thomas Irons & George Nickle his securities entered into & acknowledged bond in the Penalty of twelve hundred dollars condition as the Law directs certificate for obtaining probate thereof in due form is granted him It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that Jane Parker the Executrix named in said will refuses to take upon herself the burthen of the Execution thereof.

Hines by virture of a land office treasury warrant of 200 acres No. 17912 and dated the 19th day of July 1783 enter 100 acres of land on both sides of Meadow Creek, Beginning at a White Oak by Meadow Creek corner to his survey, thense So. 58E66 poles up the creek to the mouth of a branch & up sd. branch No. 12E138 to a White Oak, thence a straight course to a Hickory & 2 White oak sapplings corner to Parker's Land and with the line thence So. 67W152 crossing the creek to a large white oak, then joining Willoby Blevins'

October 3 Flower Swift asee of P. Gaines Asee of William Kidd by virtue of a Land Office Treasury Warrant for 2510 acres No. 16464 dated the 17th day of May 1783 enters 75 acres of land on Meadow Creek beginning in a Crab Orchard on Parker's line thence with his line and the line of Charles Denny, Lazarus Denny, Willoby Blevins & Charles Nuckles to include the vacant land thereabouts for quantity

Oct. 18 James Newell, asee of Michael Venerich asee of Michael Walters by virtue of a land office treasury warrant for 621¬ acres no. 14910 and dated the 10th day of December 1782, enters 400 acres of land on both sides of Elk Creek beginning at an Apple Tree near the bank of sd. Creek & the Mouth of Turkey Fork, then with marked trees to be laid off in one or more surveys for the legatees of Stephen Killing (Killinger?) & adjoining the lands of Sophel Goest, Parker ? Kettering, & Michael Thomas for quantity.

Grayson County Road Orders

August 20, 1793. Road from Grassy Creek to Well's Ward's. Thomas Johnson, road overseer, discharged. Ordered that Major Jones and Matthew Dickey, Gents., divide the hands between the three surveyors that keep the road in repair from the top of Iron Mountain to its junction with the Furnace Road. Ordered that a road be viewed from Elk Creek to Fisher's Gap ( Fairview) by way of Jones' Ford and by way of Jones's Ford to the new courthouse to Fisher's Gap. Ordered that William Austin and Charles Denny divide the hands between the above overseers. Charles Mayberry be appointed surveyor of the road from the county line to half the distance that William Dalton is to keep in repair. John Paxton appointed surveyor of the road from Green's Creek to county line. On the petition of James Cock a wagon road may be had from the Good Spur to the Old Elk Spur path where it joins the Flower Gap road. Ordered that James Prichett be appointed surveyor in the place of George Reeves. Ordered that John Mitchell Baker be appointed surveyor of the road from the furnace to the river. Andrew Hampton from thence to the Widow Parker's and Flower Swift from thence to the junction of said road to the Fisher's Gap Road. Ordered that William Austin and Charles Denny divided the hands between the above overseers. Agreeable to a previous order of the court, William Austin, Charles Denny and Thomas Kenworthy hath viewed the grounds from the Furnace to Dickey's Forge and find the same to convenient as the situation of the county will admit, by way of the new courthouse to said forge. The above surveyors will -- as far as shall seem convenient to them -- follow the blazed trees. Committee to view road from Little River to Brush Creek to make report.

ALTHOUGH THIS CEMETERY IS NOW CALLED THE PETTIT CEMETERY, IT APPARENTLY IS THE OLDPARKERFAMILYCEMETERY. IT APPEARS TO BE BESIDE AN OLD PLANTATION ROAD ON LAND THAT ALLEN SMITH BOUGHT FROM THE HEIRS OF JOSHUA PARKER IN 1840.

THE CEMETERY IS LOCATED IN CARROLL COUNTY VA, ON A STEEP KNOB OFF CRANBERRY ROAD. THE CEMETERY IS ABANDONED AND DIFFICULT TO REACH.

THERE ARE THREE MARKED GRAVES AND EVIDENCE OF AS MANY AS 50 OR MORE UNMARKED GRAVES.
