Obituary taken from Vernonia newspaper:
RITES FRIDAY FOR PIONEER
Walt Parker, 81, who was a member of one of the pioneer families in the Nehalem Valley and who had been a resident of the Vernonia area for over the past 75 years, died very suddenly Sunday afternoon, November 22. Mr. Parker was beaver trapping near the Nehalem River and Lake Vernonia when he was stricken by an apparent heart attack. He was missed late Monday and a search early Tuesday discovered him near the Nehalem River. His death was attributed to natural causes.
Funeral services wer held Friday, November 27, at 1 p.m. at the Fulton Mortuary Chapel in Vernonia, with the Rev. Rodney Marshall, pastor olf the Vernonia Christian church officiating. Concluding rites and interment were at the Vernonia Memorial Cemetary.

Mr. Parker was born in Baker county, Oregon, November 16, 1889, the son of the late Newton Parker. After the death of his mother when he was five years old, he came with his father and his father's family by horseback to the Nehalem Valley. His uncle, the late Albert Parker, was the first white child born in the Nehalem Valley. Mr. Parker received his education here and spent his entire lifetime working in the logging industry in this area. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping

Alice Leah Gwin, 74, of Seaside, died Sunday, July 1, in Seaside.
Mrs. Gwin was born July 30, 1915, in Vernonia, the daughter of Walter and Eda Tucker Parker. Her family was the first to settle in Vernonia.
She married Home Gwin on Aug. 30, 1934, in Vancouver, Wash. He survives.
Mrs. Gwin lived in Vernonia until 1958. She moved to Cannon Beach in 1962 and worked as a secretary at Cannon Beach School. In 1967, when the school districts consolidated, Mrs. Gwin became the district secretary at the school offices in Seaside. She retired in 1977 but returned to work for two more years until retiring permanently. She was a member of Ramona Rebekah Lodge 222.
Surviving besides her husband are a son and daughter-in law, Dick and Kathleen Gwin, Vernonia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bob and Sharon Carson, Astoria, and Dorothy and Darrell Rocke, Woodland Hills, Calif.; nine grandchildren. Two brothers, Stanley and Kenneth Parker, died earlier.
A funderal conducted by Ramona Rebekah Lodge will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Hughes-Ransom Mortuary in Seaside. Memorial contributions may be made to Ramona Rebekah Lodge No. 222.
