I have benefited from more than two decades of discussions of spectroscopy with both David Branch and Peter Hauschildt. Formally I have learned it through reading and re-reading Mihalas (1978) as well as the lecture notes of Pomraning. Many of the illustrations I will present were liberated from the lecture notes of Rutten and from Mihalas. I also have benefited from the notes, books, and papers of Castor, Avrett, Hoeflich, Rybicki & Lightman as well as my students and postdocs and many others.
