GUIDELINES FOR JOB PRIORITY
First Order
Second Order
- FIRST: MAJOR BREAKDOWN DURING EXPERIMENT
- SECOND: NEW LABS/EFFORT
- THIRD: CONTINUING EXPERIMENTS
- FOURTH: NEW EXPERIMENTS
- FIFTH: OUTSIDE DEPARTMENT
- SIXTH: SHOP MAINTENANCE/UPGRADE
DEFINITIONS
- MAJOR BREAKDOWN - Equipment failure that causes a cessation of an experimental exercise; a failure that impacts the health and, or safety of personnel, or equipment.
- NEW LABS/EFFORT - New faculty endeavoring to establish a research facility; a new research facility.
- CONTINUING EXPERIMENTS - Established experimental efforts using established equipment.
- NEW EXPERIMENTS - Established experimental efforts using ( or requiring ) new equipment.
- OUTSIDE DEPARTMENT - Work from outside the DEPARTMENT PROPER.
- SHOP MAINTENANCE - General machine tool maintenance; shop facilities upgrade. NOTE: should the shop suffer an equipment breakdown the repair effort MAY usurp ALL OF THE ABOVE!
ATTENTION
- It should be emphasized that the above criteria are guidelines
not rules! Any specific job priority depends on numerous,
not always predictable or obvious considerations; e.g. availability
of material, personnel, equipment, and inventive process.
A WORD ABOUT MISTAKES
- There are basically two types; YOURS and OURS. If we make a mistake on your project we will do everything within our range of ability to remedy the situation. If YOU make a mistake, whether on a drawing or verbal communication:( ANY CRITICAL INFORMATION MUST ALWAYS BE SUBMITTED ON PAPER ) you are at our mercy. If the mistake is one that could not have been avoided, i.e.;commercial manufacture specs. are incorrect, and you are on a critical time path, then we will try to work you in to our time line. If, however, you make a careless mistake, i.e.; you fail to measure existing parts you are trying to match correctly, or translate the information incorrectly, typically you go to the end of the line. PLEASE BE THOROUGH.
