Other Projects

CSPIN has a number of outreach efforts to local schools.

These include:

Educational kits: CSPIN is developing a number of kits and presentation materials to relate the complexity and challenge of material science and engineering. Kits are being prepared for LED's, piezoelectric materials, polymers and scanning probe microscopy.

Ugly Bug Contest: Center scientists can image objects sent in by students, using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and scanning probe microscopy. Images of these objects can be returned to students via the internet, and students can engage in a real-time conversation with the scientist. This project, often used to scan insects, can be extended to any object of interest to the students.
