Issues with Non-Lithographic Production of Displays
Presented by Jeff Meth, Dupont
Alternate imaging technologies may potentially improve many display
products. Thin film transfer (TFT) arrays and color filters (CF) are
two applications that have received attention over the last decade. I
will describe patterned chemical bath deposition of CdS combined with
laminated polymer dielectrics to exemplify the issues surrounding the
manufacture of TFT arrays. Specific interactions will be addressed in
pentacenestyrenic polymer examples. In addition, this talk will
describe physical modeling of laser-induced imaging for making color
filters: heat flow in thin films on a microsecond time scale;
mechanical effects for writing patterns; and contact mechanics of thin
viscoelastic films. Finally, I hope to communicate, through these
examples, how to work effectively in an industrial research
environment.
